Fasting gets a lot of bad press. People get hysterical if you suggest that they go without eating for 24 hours.
Well here’s the deal. We’re designed to go days without eating and still be able to perform at a high level. How is this so? Well, the abundance of food and grocery stores everywhere is a relatively new thing in the human experience.
Before all our modern conveniences, we had to kill what we ate. So that meant we had to hunt down an animal and kill it somehow, then butcher it and finally cook and eat the thing. It was a lot of work. And humans weren’t always successful in hunting animals.
So we adapted to go days without having food. This has never been unusual until recently.
Believe it or not, YOU can go days without eating food and be just fine. In fact, it’s actually beneficially to your health to fast for a day or two and sometimes even more. Our bodies adapted to periods of not having food or fasting.
The human body has to use a bunch of energy and resources to digest food. When the body isn’t digesting food, it uses the excess energy and resources to go Roto-Rooter style and clean out a lot of the junk that builds up inside us.
The problem is, if we never fast, our bodies don’t have this opportunity to go all Roto-Rooter and clean crap out.
The real problem is what we haven’t yet adapted to, which is having food all the time.
No one ever died from going a day without having food. Give fasting a try. It’s really not as big of a deal as most people think it is. It’s not easy to go without eating because we’re so used to having food all the time.
But if you try fasting for a day, you’ll see that it doesn’t hurt you, and you just might notice some significant benefits to your health as well.
